5 Years of YourSpace – 5 Venues – 5 Eras

The Quantum Lounge Open Mic’ @Newtown RSL every Sunday (then Monday) from January-October 2006.
This was the original catalyst for YS and featured a few of the founding members still YourSpacing today.
The RSL kicked us out to make room for more pokies and gamblers.

‘YourSpace Open Mic’ at The Shannon Hotel, Chippendale ~ November 2006-February 2007
Many a drunken Thursday was had at this tiny little Irish bar, until we had to pull the plug as the venue had no POPE license & nosey neighbours.

A few months later we had Saturday night YS events downstairs at the Shannon running concurrently with our fourth venue The Sly Fox.

theCADfactory – Marrickville ~ February-March 2007
This warehouse venue/space was offered to us by the wonderful Dave Farquar who took us in after having to leave The Shannon without notice, we rocked on there while we looked for our next venue – which was …

The Sly Fox Hotel, Enmore ~ March 2007-July 2009
This was our longest-running and some say most successful (albeit unmercifully drunken and shadowy) run.
The Fox kicked us out after 2 and a half years with 2 weeks notice to make way for DJs and the zillions of $$$s that they expected would come with them…

Newtown’s Townie – The Town Hall Hotel ~ July 2009 – April 2011
Where we were welcomed with open arms and bemused expressions when we kicked off (without missing a booking!) the week following the final night at the Fox.

They took a punt on us as the Townie at that stage was hosting live music only sporadically (read: when someone could be bothered putting something on) and soon the live music bug took on a life of its own and now the Townie hosts live music (almost 100% of it original!) regularly, booked by YS Alumni Sally Hackett.

And there the journey ends, but I think its safe to say our legacy will live on.
